The inaugural edition of the MadrasArtGuild was launched on January 10 in the presence of Grammy-nominated musician Mandolin Rajesh, renowned art director Padma Shri Dr. Thota Tharani, M. Senathipathi, senior artist and president of Cholamandal Artists’ Village, along with cultural ambassadors and key members of Chennai’s art community. The evening commenced with an interesting panel discussion on “The Changing Landscape of Public Art”. The eminent panellists included photographer and founder of the Chennai Photo Biennale, Varun Gupta, senior artists Murali Cheeroth, Parvathi Nayar and Rahool Saksena, and fashion designer and founder of Brass Tacks, Anaka Narayanan. The panel was moderated by Sumi Gupta, Curator, VR Art Programmes. A specially-choreographed #bharatnatyam performance by Rukmini Vijayakumar and the unveiling of the VR Art Car 2019 followed.
