Our furry best friends had a lot of fun and games at the Blind Date Event that took place on 15th February. The premier kids entertainment channel in Tamil Nadu, ChuttiTV celebrated its 12-year anniversary at VR Chennai on April 28 with a number of exciting games and activities for children of all ages. The characters from the highly-rated show Varutha Padadha Kutty Karadi Sangam were at the centre to entertain the young ones, along with special hosts Sastika, Niketan and Rakesh.

The iconic British fashion brand Marks & Spencer opened its 75th store in India at VR Chennai to much fanfare. The chief guest for the grand launch was the renowned Bollywood and Kollywood actor Shruti Haasan.

Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (PUBG) is an online battle royale game where 100 players go up against each other, with victory going to the last person or squad standing. Top players from across TamilNadu converged at Swargamandapam, as part of Season 2 of the Table Tennis Super League, to show off their talent while representing their respective franchises. Eight teams with players from various age groups battled it out against each other in an effort to be crowned the best. The finals were held in the presence of chief guests Miss India Tamil Nadu 2017 Sherlin Seth and 8-time National Table Tennis Champion Sharath Kamal, and the Mighty Warriors walked away with the trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh.

VR Chennai offered a unique opportunity to enjoy powerful performances from stalwarts of SouthIndian art. The 35-day festival was a celebration of the storied music and culture of South India with artists from across the region performing at different venues across the city. The inaugural edition of the MadrasArtGuild was launched on January 10 in the presence of Grammy-nominated musician Mandolin Rajesh, renowned art director Padma Shri Dr. Thota Tharani, M. Senathipathi, senior artist and president of Cholamandal Artists’ Village, along with cultural ambassadors and key members of Chennai’s art community. The evening commenced with an interesting panel discussion on “The Changing Landscape of Public Art”. The eminent panellists included photographer and founder of the Chennai Photo Biennale, Varun Gupta, senior artists Murali Cheeroth, Parvathi Nayar and Rahool Saksena, and fashion designer and founder of Brass Tacks, Anaka Narayanan. The panel was moderated by Sumi Gupta, Curator, VR Art Programmes. A specially-choreographed #bharatnatyam performance by Rukmini Vijayakumar and the unveiling of the VR Art Car 2019 followed.

The international Zumba instructor Pedro Camacho was at VR Chennai, as part of his India tour. The special fitness session at Swargamandapam allowed our patrons to learn new things, dance to great music and take their workout to the next level.

Movie lovers from across Chennai converged at VRChennai for a special Art Cinema showcase of the critically acclaimed film Pollock. The screening was as part of the Madras Art Guild 2019 at TheHive.

The MAG Art Bazaar, held as part of the Madras Art Guild, gave our patrons a special opportunity to shop for products crafted by artisans from across India. From traditional Tanjore paintings to Chettinad woven baskets, toys from Channapatna and more, along with unique creations by some of the city’s finest artists, the Bazaar had something for everyone to indulge in.

The 2-day long MadrasArtGuild2019 ChildrensArtCompetition, held in association with GlobalArt, saw participation from hundreds of talented youngsters from all over the city. Kids from the ages of 4-13 showcased their view of “My Chennai” by way of their art. The best entries were also given special awards at the end of each day.

The Pongal Celebrations at VR Chennai also coincided with the MadrasArtGuild2019, a celebration of art from Chennai and beyond. As part of the event, the Pongal live-art installation, created by students from the Government College of Fine Arts, Kumbakonam, was unveiled by the famous vocalist Shakthisree Gopalan. This was followed by live performances of #traditional #tamil art forms such as PoikalKuthirai, Mayilattam & MaaduAatam.

The Holiday Season in #VRChennai kicked off with a tree-lighting ceremony at Swargamandapam. The lights of the magnificent 50-foot tree was turned on by students from Suyam Charitable Trust and Siragu Montessori School.

The Hive hosted an interactive session with two of the city’s favourite thought leaders, as part of TheHindu LitFest. Both P.C. Balasubramanian, author of the national bestsellers “Rajini’s Punchtantra” and “Grand Brand Rajini”, and Sastharam Ravendran, serial entrepreneur and public speaker, shared their thoughts and experiences with the audience.

As part of TheHindu LitFest, VR Chennai hosted an evening of storytelling for our young visitors. The session was held at Swargamandapam by Janaki Sabesh, the founder of Golpo - Tales Unlimited. Through an interactive mix of narration and movement, she was able to hold the imagination of kids and adults alike.

The culmination of the Margazhi season was celebrated at VR Chennai with a special bharatnatyam performance by Preethi Ramaprasad. VR Weekends is among the most looked-forward-to cultural events in the city, and this MargazhiSpecial edition held at Madras Circle was well-attended by art lovers from AnnaNagar and beyond.

VR Chennai was lit-up with the spirit of the holidays, this December. Our HolidaySplendour celebrations started at the beginning of the month and culminated with a unique SantaParade on Christmas Day. The parade saw SantaClaus and his team of elves pay a visit to the Centre all the way from the North Pole with a sleigh-full of gifts and surprises for shoppers.

On the weekend before Christmas, VRChennai, in partnership with the toy giant Hasbro, conducted a unique MyLittlePony event at Swargamandapam for our young visitors. The Golu Festival is an important part of South Indian culture and heralds the beginning of the festive season.
