KALI YUG

shambhal gram mukhyasyabrahmhanasyamahatmnh
bhavanevishnuyasyahkalkihipradurbavishyati
{bhagavata purana}

Translation: "God Kalki will appear in the home of the most eminent Brahmin, Vishnuyasha of Shambhal village."

The Avatar:

The Destroyer.
The Kalki avatar is yet to appear on Earth. According to the Puranas, Lord Vishnu will take the form of Kalki towards the end of the Kali Yug (the epoch we are currently living in) and ride into the world on a white horse, sword drawn to kill the enemies of Dharm.

The Story:

The scriptures talk about a future filled with greed and Adharm. Humanity is consumed by lawlessness and immorality and the Lord will take the form of Kalki to cleanse the world of evil and usher in a new golden age, Satya Yug, filled with peace and prosperity.

Indian scriptures believes that time is cyclic, and each cycle contains 4 great ages (or Yugs) – Satya Yug, Treta Yug, Dwapara Yug and Kali Yug. The coming of the Kalki avatar of Lord Vishnu signals the end of one cycle and the beginning of another.

At VR Chennai:

Represented in abstract wire forms and lit elements, the interpretation is an ode to the Puranic tale of the coming of Kalki, atop a white horse with a sword in hand. The installation can be seen in the Madras House lobby on the third floor.
