VR Chennai is a conceptual crossover between the interwoven layers of the mighty southern dynasties, the charming Madras of yore and the ambitions of modern-day Chennai. The history and heritage of this great city, along with that of South India at large, are depicted throughout the Centre.

The tales of the great kingdoms of Southern India, from the Sangam Era to the mighty Vijayanagara Empire are inscribed on the Ulòka Gopuram in the form of motifs and coins significant to these mighty dynasties. The colonial past of the city, from early British settlements until Independence in 1947, is featured on the Kaliman Gopuram. A hand painted time-line mural traces the historical and cultural legacy of Chennai, detailing the evolution of the city, from 250,000 B.C. when it was home to one of the earliest human settlements, to the present day.
